Re-decorating

Back in August we purchased our first "together" house! I was sooo excited, as it was a very long and drawn out process. The house we ended up getting is perfect for us, 3 bedroom, 2 bath with a pool. Nothing major needed to be done in the house (which was a blessing because it was a short-sale from a lady that didn't live in it for a year) with the exception of new paint, and new flooring in the bedrooms.

I painted the awful blazing red wall in the living room a few months ago and was super pleased with the outcome. It was top of the list since it was the first thing you see as you walk into the house.

Then it was time to paint Cameron's room. The previous family had two little girls, so naturally the bedrooms were light green and light purple (YUCK for a boy). The room we chose for Cameron was the furthest from the master. Even though it's the smallest room in the house, we chose it because if we were in the Master at night we wanted to maintain a noise barrier, and if we do have a second baby we would naturally want it close by.

This meant Cameron was stuck with a light purple room with  a terrible fan that was white and all kinds of cockeyed- rigged with fabric shoved in it to balance it out! Oh- not to mention they also PAINTED THE CEILING THE SAME COLOR. (barf)

So yesterday we got to work. We found a baseball fan from Home Depot (the blades are baseball bats, the mount is a baseball glove, and the light it a baseball), got new outlet covered to replace the cheapy white ones, and some fresh paint. We put on a thick primer and proceeded to paint! The end results are awesome, and Cameron kept thanking us all day. It literally took us from 7am until 7pm to complete it all. Next we will replace the flooring (big shout out to Nena for that- she knows how to put in tile and will be doing that soon) and replace the doors.

I have no idea what the problem is with Mothers though. I have no problem spending the money to buy anything for Cameron (within reason), or really for the rest of the house except for the master. Our bedroom looks like a college dorm room. I have a REALLY old dresser (previously from my brothers teenage room), a mattress and box spring on the floor and hand me down night stands. Now don't get my wrong, I am beyond thankful to even have those items, but it boggles my mind that I can't seem to spend money on myself like I use to.

Only recently we purchased matching lamps, curtains, the kind sized mattress set.. We still have a lot of work to go. And to be honest, the only reason we even purchased those items it because in my 36 in 360 list that's a goal.

But this isn't just about my master bedroom, it's in relation to anything that I feel is "mine". I almost feel guilty buying myself something. I guess it's better than being a Mom that only thinks of herself, but I've got to come to the realization that if I don't get something for myself, who's going to? I know that other women can relate to this thought process. Even something as simple as new bras and underwear.. It's a struggle to get myself in the store and walk out with something.

For today, I will try to overcome that little nag in my brain saying I shouldn't spend the money. I work hard and deserve to have basic essentials as well.. Victoria Secret here I come! We will see if I walk out with anything ;)

OH- in other news I will be guest posting on www.letmeseeyousparkle.com for one of my best friends, Chrissy soon. I am sending her the blog today and when she posts it I will let that be my post for the day as to not ruin the surprise (which I think is pretty darn fantastic). She also has a store that I am in love with! It's on ETSY letmeseeyousparkle. She has some promo's for first time shoppers, enter OPEN10 to receive 10% off. Let me tell you how hard this lady has worked to get this store up and running! She spent MONTHS making these cute items and I promise you will NOT be disappointed.
